Glum Man Utd stars arrive for training after torrid loss to Palace as Van de Beek is chauffeur driven to Carrington

MAN UNITED stars arrive at Carrington the day after their disappointing 3-1 defeat in their Premier League opener at home to Crystal Palace.

Man Utd are straight back to work the day after their defeat to Crystal Palace where former United star Wilfred Zaha came back to wreak havoc.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side dominated the ball but significantly struggled to convert the possession into shots on goal.

Palace's direct pace through the likes of Zaha and Townsend proved to be the difference, Roy Hodgson's men were comfortable to sit back, invite pressure and then counter.

Donny van de Beek proved to be the only positive, the new boy scored on his United debut but it did not stop him giving an honest assessment.

The former Ajax midfielder told MUTV: "We trained good, so my feeling was really positive. But, yeah, today we played too slowly.

"My first match for the club and then you want to win. It doesn’t matter how you want to win.

“I’m really disappointed that we lose 3-1 at home. I think it’s really bad."

Van de Beek's impressive debut could put him in line to start against Luton Town in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Left-back Luke Shaw has also said that the team needs new faces to stop the risk of falling behind rivals Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.

Shaw said: "We are a very good group, but personally I think we need more players to strengthen the squad.

“It can give us a boost. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”

Shaw, 25, also revealed that the team did not hold back post-match when it came to addressing the poor performance.

Shaw went on to say: "A lot of things were said after the game and we need to put it to bed.

"Possibly everything went wrong.

"We need to be very disappointed because we should be but forget about it and move on.

"We’ve got a big game on Tuesday, we need to win that and pick up momentum again. At the start of the season it’s always key to how the season will go ahead.”

The left-back also hinted that the lack of pre-season preparation may have been the reason why the team were so "sluggish".

Tuesday night's game against Luton Town is the perfect opportunity for Man Utd to get back to winning ways, Ole has the chance to make some changes and find his best starting XI ahead of matchweek two.

United are also under increasing pressure from fans and pundits to bring some new faces in, with two weeks left of the transfer window, United could revisit a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.
