England's Euro 2020 campaign got off to a winning start when Raheem Sterling's scored a goal that secured his team’s victory against Croatia.
And the wives and girlfriends who are behind them all year round were given a special day out as a thank you for their support. Firstly, several of the players’ partners put on their England shirts to show solidarity for the team, even if their tops may not have passed the formal dress code.
Anoushka Santoa, Charlotte Trippier, Megan Davison, Fern Hawkins and Annie Kilner, who are partners of Luke Shaw, Kieran Tripper, Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker, all posed for the cameras.
Others used this opportunity to create a special day for their children. Megan Davison, who is Jordan Pickford's wife, carried their toddler son Arlo in her arms as she showed him around the stadium. The tot wore a cute replica shirt with the word 'Daddy' on the back.
And law student Mia McClenaghan, who is the girlfriend of Reece James, shared an image of herself sitting in the recognisable red seats inside the ground and posted a heart emoji above the pristine green pitch.
Before the match itself, the WAGs sat down to a sumptuous three-course lunch, plus canapes.
Each of them had a choice of two starters, the first was a tian, or layered dish, of Cromer crab served with Hass avocado, watermelon, pickled fennel and dill creme fraiche. The vegetarian option was tomato and mozzarella from an organic farm in Hertfordshire, with lovage pesto.
The theme of seasonal local produce continued with the main courses, which were English asparagus, wild mushroom, spinach and celeriac tart with smoked garlic cream sauce. For carnivores, there was a slow cooked beef fillet and braised cheek, served with King Edward potato mash, burnt onion puree, baby carrots and chargrilled baby leeks.
For pudding, the WAGs enjoyed rhubarb and hibiscus trifle with Florentine biscuits.
And as if that wasn’t enough to eat, Anoushka shared the menu for the ‘after party’ – presumably once the match was over and the players could join them – which was Match Day Pies including some that aren't have been served at many clubs, such as butternut squash and bean and steak and blue cheese, as well as cod and chips with seaweed tartare, and to finish, caramel brownie.
England will next play Scotland at Wembley on Friday 9pm.
