Glasgow's Summer Nights at the Bandstand has postponed the festival for a second year due to the covid pandemic.

And organisers Regular Music say they made the decision with a 'heavy heart' as they could not guarantee customers would get the experience they deserved.

The music festival was scheduled to take place at the city’s Kelvingrove Bandstand at the end of July into the start of August, but with social distancing measures set to still be in place, it proved too risky.

Scots acts Primal Scream, Edwyn Collins and The Jesus & Mary Chain joined others including Suzanne Vega, Belinda Carlisle, Rick Astley and Van Morrison on the line up and have now confirmed they will play a rescheduled show in 2022.

Regular Music said: “It is with a heavy heart that, due to the physical distancing and other measures that are still likely to still be in place in July, we have taken the decision to postpone this year’s Summer Nights at the Bandstand until summer 2022.

“The festival has a deserved reputation for being a very special experience for both audience and artists alike. For the audience it is seeing their favourite artists up close, the great atmosphere, mixing with friends and singing along with the crowd and for the artists, its connecting with the audience in such an intimate setting and feeling the energy from an arena full of excited fans.

“As much as we would dearly love to be able to return this summer, it will not be possible to go ahead with restrictions in place or to guarantee the experience that everyone has come to expect.

“We’d like to thank all ticket holders for their patience while we worked on this and are grateful to all of the artists for rescheduling their shows. We are delighted to confirm that we are able to keep the same line-up in place for 2022.”

In the past the festival has attracted names including Tom Jones and won a Scottish Music Award at the Unesco City of Music Best Live Event in 2017.

Tickets for this year’s concerts are valid for the rescheduled shows in 2022. Refunds including booking fees will be available from the point of purchase for those no longer able to attend.
