An eight year-old girl was struck and killed by a stray bullet while doing her homework on her living room floor. Timiya Andrews was taken off life support Wednesday, six days after being shot in the head at her home in Chicago.

The youngster was doing her schoolwork when a gunman stood on the street outside her home let off 16 rounds, with one bullet flying through the siding of Timiya’s house and striking her. Police believe the killer bullet likely ricocheted off another object before hitting Timiya.

Afterwards, Timiya was rushed to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital. She spent six days in intensive care, with attempts to save the youngster’s life sadly proving unsuccessful.

Detectives are urgently working Timiya’s case, but do not have any leads or suspects. They do not believe the shooting was targeted, and are currently trying to work out if the shooter left the area by car or on foot. Chicago Police told CBS2 that Timiya’s killer was a ‘cowardly thug.’

A $10,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to the capture of Timiya’s killer.
