Gartcairn have signed 12 players as they bid for the West of Scotland League Conference B title.

The Airdrie side last night signed midfielder Reece Glackin and defender Stephen Bryson, adding to David Sinclair, Ross McNeil, Joshua Gracie, Eddie Ferns, Kieran Maxwell, Owen Ronald, Dom Febers, Barry Eley, Liam Craig and Anton McDowell.

That adds to a number of players they have retained, including Danny Burns and Jordan Love, and defender Kev Ross.

Assistant manager Scott Mills is delighted with their work so far and said: “We’ve brought in players who have experience of the level we’re in and higher leagues, but this year we’ve tried to earmark boys who have done it for two, three or four seasons.

“Last year we went down a bit of a more high-profile route, so this year we’ve gone for that.

“We’re happy with the squad, but never say never. If the right player becomes available, makes us stronger, then we’ll have a look.

“The committee have been great with us and have backed us, we think we’ve identified the right players for this level, the league fixtures are out and we start with Newmains away, so that’s our focus.

Gartcairn have seven pre-season friendlies lined-up

“The title is the aim, we’re really happy with our recruitment, training has been really enjoyable, a good standard, the players are setting a high demand of each other.”

Gartcairn have set up seven pre-season friendlies and expect to play against Larkhall Thistle on Thursday and Troon on Saturday.

Mills said: “We have a pre-season schedule of seven. We’ve played one against Syngenta, and we’ve got games against Drumchapel, Rossvale and Cumbernauld United. It’s a tough league, but we’re just happy to get going.

“There are some decent fixtures in there, we’re looking forward to it.

“There are a lot of teams in the league that look as if they’ve recruited well and they’re going to be pushing for it, but we’ve got big belief in ourselves and we want to be the team to beat.”
