A Hull customer has been left disgusted after being told that his pink and juicy chicken wing from KFC was supposed to look that way by staff.

Reece Smith, 24, was visiting the Jameson Street KFC restaurant with his partner and little girl when the family meal was ruined by what he believed was some suspect meat.

Reece, from north Hull, said he only noticed the colour of the chicken after taking a bite into one of the two extra wings that he had ordered.

After tearing open both wings he found them to be pink with clear juice running out of them and what he thought was "uncooked" meat near the bone.

When he raised his concerns with staff, they told him that the wings were meant to look like that because of the cooking process.

Reece said: "I went in with my partner and little girl, we ordered two boneless banquet boxes, a kids' bucket, and I added two single wings for an extra cost of £1.99.

"I tucked into my boneless banquet box enjoying the chicken like you do and then I bit into the two single wings and then that's when I noticed the chicken was a funny colour.

"I immediately chucked it down in the box and opened the other piece of chicken to find that one the same. I was shocked and grateful I didn't eat the chicken without looking at it first.

"When I opened the chicken it had clear juices coming from it.

"I got straight up and went to the collection point of the store and said to the woman behind the counter: 'I'm not being funny love but chicken is not meant to look like that'.

"She pulled a funny face at the chicken and said 'Oh, one moment' and she went to the back of the store to the manager.

"I could still see her at this point, the manager took the chicken and then looked at it, pulled a face, then they both came back to the counter and the manager's reply was 'sorry about that the chicken is meant to look like that as its glazed in sauce in the bag'."

Unsatisfied, Reece left the store claiming he would report the store to hygiene authorities.

A KFC Spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear our guest was put off his meal, that’s the last thing we want.

"Safety is our number one priority and we follow thorough cooking procedures in all of our restaurants, but sometimes our chicken can look this way - usually due to the marinade.

"But we appreciate this doesn’t look great, so we’d love the guest to get in touch and we can make things right.”
