TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who was found dead in his Greengairs home after suffering “a horrendous assault”.

Police have launched a murder enquiry after Daniel Greer, 33, known to friends as Shed, was discovered at the Rankin Crescent property around 12.55pm on Monday, October 19 – three days after he had last been seen.

A post mortem examination has taken place and detectives are treating Mr Greer’s death as murder - and believe he was assaulted “elsewhere” before being returned to his home.

Heartbroken friends and family have taken to social media to pay their respects.

One wrote: “Going to miss you so much mate.

“I can’t believe this has happened to such a great person.

“You were and will always be my partner in mayhem.

“Fly high mate see you again one day.”

Another said: “RIP Daniel thinking of your mum and family at this awful time.”

While another message stated: “RIP Daniel. Thoughts are with his family. So heartbreaking.”

A devastated friend posted: “I’m so sorry to read this.

“You were a lovely guy Daniel.”

They added: “Was in my class all the way through high school and used to catch up with him a lot and would come down to mines for a blether.”

Detective Superintendent Kevin Jamieson of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (East) said: “Mr Greer died as a result of a violet assault and at this time we are trying to establish a motive for his attack.

“Anyone with information should contact police at Coatbridge via telephone number 101, quoting incident number 1243 of October 19.

Police have also set up an online portal to encourage members of the public to submit information.
