The freak April freeze will continue again today with widespread frost and temperatures plunging as low as -7C.

Forecasters have said that an Arctic chill that arrived last week is still lingering with the mercury expected to barely rise above single digits on Wednesday.

Rain will also batter parts of the UK with Wales and the south bearing the brunt of the deluge.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said that most will be waking up to another bitingly cold day today with fog possible, but with sunshine arriving later on.

He said: "A widespread frost and some fog patches to wake up to on Wednesday.

There will also be scattered showers throughout the day in many parts of the country, which will turn into sunnier weather as the day goes on.

Most of the rainfall that is expected to hit will batter Wales and parts of the south coast and south west England.
