Fourth and fifth stimulus checks could be on the way in lawmakers’ push for more Covid relief

SUPPORT is growing in congress for President Biden to send out a fourth, and even fifth stimulus check.

Seven members of the House Ways and Means Committee have now sent Biden a letter indicating that they have joined the ranks of congress members who now support implementing two additional stimulus checks.

"Direct payments and enhanced UI are among the most effective forms of relief available," the letter reads.

"Not only do they help keep families and workers out of poverty, they act as economic stimulus by increasing spending and supporting jobs."

The letter also points to data showing the effect stimulus checks can have on keeping American families out of poverty.

"A fourth and fifth check could keep an additional 12 million out of poverty. Combined with the effects of the ARP, direct payments could reduce the number in poverty in 2021 from 44 million to 16 million."

It follows yet another letter penned by 21 Democratic senators and sent to Biden on March 30 to push for additional stimulus.

"Almost 6 in 10 people say the $1,400 payments set to be included in the rescue package will last them less than three months," the senators wrote in the letter.

With both houses of Congress back in session now for the first time since May 20, the status of the potential new checks is becoming one of the key issues up for debate.

The proposal is also gaining broad approval throughout the population, as a petition for recurring monthly stimulus checks up to $2,000 is nearing 2.3million signatures.

"I'm calling on Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis," the petition states.

"Otherwise, laid-off workers, furloughed workers, the self-employed, and workers dealing with reduced hours will struggle to pay their rent or put food on the table."

The petition was first posted on last year by Denver, Colorado-based restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin.

It already won a place as one of's top 10 petitions that changed 2020, and if it hits the 3million signatures mark, it will become one of the most signed petitions on the site.

Meanwhile, American families could still receive up to $300 per month this summer, thanks to the passage of Biden's child tax credit.

The first check will reach bank accounts by July 15 and subsequent payments will be made on the 15th day of each month.
