Former Premier League referee Peter Walton believes that Bournemouth's Philip Billing should have been sent off for violent conduct following a challenge on Ashley Barnes.
The Burnley forward was struck by the arm of his opponent and, with the incident missed by on-field referee Martin Atkinson, the decision went to a VAR viewing.
However, VAR decided that Billing was not guilty of violent conduct but that was the incorrect decision according to Walton, who believes Atkinson would have shown a red card if he had seen the incident.
“Philip Billing has clearly been antagonised by Barnes and he goes round, whips his arm and catches him on the side of the head,” he told BT Sport.
“VAR has looked at it and not seen that it is violent conduct. Had the referee seen it in real time, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had issued a red card.
“VAR have seen it as a subjective play but I agree that it should have been a red card.”
