Former Hull FC playmaker Jordan Rankin has been released in order to return home to Australia.

Rankin has been on loan at Castleford Tigers from Huddersfield Giants since the start of 2019 and both clubs have agreed to cancel his contract with immediate effect, on compassionate grounds, allowing him to move Down Under.

The 28-year-old started his Super League career with the Black and Whites, moving from Gold Coast Titans to the KCOM Stadium in 2014, and went on to make 50 appearances for Hull before agreeing to join Wests Tigers after two seasons.

Rankin was a key player in Castleford’s first seven games this season after being given the number one shirt by Daryl Powell, but as he says his goodbyes, it is unclear where his future in the game lies.

"I'm disappointed to be cutting my time short here in the UK but my family comes first," Rankin said in a statement on Castleford’s official website.

"I want to thank both clubs for giving me the opportunity to play, to play in Super League and I've really enjoyed it, my time at Cas especially.”
