Five teenagers arrested for murder after man, 26, found dead as crowds clash with police at scene

TEEN 'MURDERERS'

HUNDREDS of mourners clashed with police at the scene of a 26-year-old man's death after five teenagers were arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Crowds gathered to pay their respects to the victim, named locally as Ryan O'Connor, 26, less than 24 hours after he was killed in Newport, Wales.

Gwent Police launched an investigation after receiving a report of a serious assault in Balfe Road before finding the man unconscious and unresponsive just after 9pm on Thursday.

Two 19-year-old men, an 18-year old man, and a 17-year-old man all from Cardiff have been arrested on suspicion of murder along with a 17-year-old male from Caerphilly.

Officers then had to deal with a major disturbance on Friday as fights broke out among the huge crowd that had gathered as loved ones laid tributes to the father-of-one, affectionately known as Apple.

A large police presence was seen on Balfe Road and cops issued a dispersal order as the violence continued.

Footage from the gathering appeared to show one man on the ground as another ran away, before being wrestled to the floor by several police officers, Wales Online reports.

Other clips show several police officers attempting to control the crowd as numerous fights continued to break out.

Around 30 police cars were seen in the area and two roads were closed.

Witnesses said there was a "tension" in the air as crowds continued to gather outside a block of flats.

Balloons, flowers and apples were laid in respect of the young dad who was described as being "extremely popular in the area".

All five suspects remain in police custody and inquiries are continuing.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation, or dashcam footage, is asked to call 101, quoting log reference 2100203630.
