One of Edinburgh’s busiest roads has been locked down as fire crews battle a blaze within a building.
Several emergency services vehicles are currently in attendance on Princes Street after being called to the scene on Monday afternoon.
The road is closed to traffic between Castle Street and South Charlotte Street while a cordon is blocking off the pavement to pedestrians.
It is not currently known whether anyone has been injured or the extent of the fire however it is believed to have started inside the empty Debenhams store according to an eyewitness.
Edinburgh Trams tweeted: “Due to an incident in the City Centre, services are operating between Edinburgh Airport and West End only.
“There is a ticket acceptance in place with Lothian Buses.”
Stagecoach and Lothian Buses are also being diverted.
Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
