Fetty Wap - real name Willie Junior Maxwell II - smashed onto the music scene in 2015 when he released his debut hit Trap Queen.
And when the rap star's song reached number two on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 he automatically became a big name, and fans wanted to know more about the musician after noticing that he only had one eye.
Several theories circulated as to what caused the New Jersey native to have lost an eye - including that he had been involved in a shooting - but the 679 hitmaker shut down the speculation when he shared how a tragic childhood accident, that happened before his first birthday, was to blame for the injury.
During an interview with DJ Self on Shade 45 in 2015, Fetty Wap and shared on what happened to cause him to lose one eye.
"I tell everybody it's nothing because it's really nothing to me," he began.
He then said: “When I was little, I had gotten into a little accident and it gave me congenital glaucoma in both of my eyes. The doctor saved one, I was blessed to still have my vision. That’s it. That’s the story.”
After the accident, Fetty, who now has a vacant bloodshot space below his eyelid, had a prosthetic eye but he decided to remove the artificial eye after he was bullied at school.
The star's classmates were constantly making fun of his injury which led to him often being involved in fights. But he gradually became more comfortable with his disability, and as a teenager decided one day to remove his prosthetic eye.
Fetty Wap previously shared that he sometimes gets judgmental reactions from people about his one eye.
He said: “I’m probably one of the first rappers/singers to come on the scene with one eye and be comfortable with it.”.
The chart-topper continued: “A lot of people are judgmental, but it’s all on how you show yourself to the people. That’s probably one of the main things people won’t know about me until they see me.”
