Fernandinho says Manchester City are already looking towards their Premier League fixture with Aston Villa after the disappointment of an FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.
City were under-par at Wembley, losing a second FA Cup semi-final in as many seasons. The defeat ends hopes of the Blues making history by winning the quadruple, although they are still on course to win the league and are in the Carabao Cup final and Champions League semi-finals.
Fernandinho, back in the side against Chelsea, insists there was no drop in standards ahead of the game, as he dismissed the idea that Pep Guardiola's much-changed side were fatigued or limited by their rotation.
He said: “We prepared for the game so well and yesterday was a really good training session. The players were so confident they could get the result, but football is like that sometimes, you get defeated. We have to refocus and focus on the next one.
"I don’t think [the defeat was down to rotation or fatigue]. The rotation of the team is always normal. The boss tries to play everyone and of course every match is important for us.
"Every game we play we rotate the team and players and unfortunately today we were unable to play good football and to take the chances you create. But now it is heads up and we focus on the next one.”
Fernandinho revealed the mood in the City dressing room has already turned to putting right the Wembley result against Aston Villa on Wednesday and then against Tottenham in the League Cup final next weekend.
He continued: “For this team, we want to fight for every trophy and tournament we go into. We have to refocus as soon as possible. Tomorrow we will go back to our training session and start to prepare the game on Wednesday against Aston Villa.
"Then, the next one is the final. That is the main reason we are here. Every game we are going to play and we have to be ready to be at our best on the pitch.”
