Ten-men Newcastle claimed a point against Norwich - but will only after they led through Callum Wilson.
After a positive start, the Magpies were dealt a huge blow when Ciaran Clark was shown a straight red card after bringing down Teemu Pukki when through on goal.
Joelinton went close with an effort from the edge of the box, but Jamal Lewis had to be alert to deny Sargent at the far post.
Joe Willock then set up Callum Wilson after a driving run, with the stand-in Magpies captain firing over on the turn.

Newcastle felt they should have had a penalty early in the second half when Joelinton went down under a challenge, but the referee wasn't interested.
However, United did get their spot-kick when Billy Gilmour was adjudged to have handballed in the box, after a VAR check. And skipper Wilson stepped up to strike the Magpies into the lead - despite Tim Krul getting a hand to his penalty.
The visitors levelled, however, when Pukki volleyed him after United failed to clear a cross.
Here's how Lee Ryder rated the Newcastle players.
Martin Dubravka 7
A questionable moment which led to the equaliser but redeemed himself in stoppage time to deny Giannoulis. A tough night as he faced 14 shots from the visitors.
Javier Manquillo 6
Left having to recalculate after Clark red card. Unable to get too far forward and didn't manage a single cross.
Ciaran Clark -
A rookie error from the experienced defender. This was a needless move as Pukki still had a lot to do.
Whoever made that rule up may have spared him a low mark although a 1/10 may have been appropriate had this occurred a few minutes later the cut off point.
Fabian Schar 5
Struggled for long periods and almost handed Norwich the winner after late slip.
Jamal Lewis 6
Battled hard against his old club and made first half clearance. The equaliser came from his side.
Ryan Fraser -
Not on long enough to get a mark. Just three touches.
Jonjo Shelvey 6
A decent opening but then forced to sit deeper and deeper.
Joe Willock 5
Not helped by the sending off which reduced his freedom going forward. But getting Willock back on song is one of the big tasks for Howe. Just 24 touches and no shots.
Allan Saint-Maximin 6
Not at his vintage best but shackled by defensive duties.
Started brightly but while he was prepared to take on the strike a few times, he was way off target.
Callum Wilson 7
Kept his cool from the spot and battled hard with no service.
Federico Fernandez 8 (for Fraser 10)
Should have started the game. Battled hard and made some vital interceptions.
Isaac Hayden 6 (for 73)
Not much time to make an impact.
Miguel Almiron (for Saint-Maximin 77)
*Subs must play 15 minutes to gain a mark.
