Preston North End crashed out the FA Youth Cup with a 4-2 defeat at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers.
Nick Harrison's team twice held the lead in the game, but a red card to right back Ben Dooley mid-way through the second half turned the contest in Rovers' favour.
Ethan Walker had fired PNE ahead inside ten minutes, scoring a fine solo goal with his left foot after some tricky wing play.
Just before the break, after a half of strong Preston defending, Rovers' D'Margio Wright-Phillips capitalised on a breakdown in communication between goalkeeper and defender to slot home into an empty net.
North End came out quick in the second half though and hit the front through the bright Tyrhys Dolan, who fired home on rebound after Walker saw his shot saved.
It seemed to be Preston's tie for the taking, until Dooley was sent off following an altercation with Georgie Gent.
And from there on in it went downhill - Jalil Saadi headed home from a corner to equalise and minutes later, Zak Gilsenan did the same to make it 3-2.
North End huffed and puffed, but Sam Burns landed the sucker punch strike deep into stoppage time.
Here is how we rated the PNE youngsters tonight.
Did a lot of good things, commanding when he needed to be. Partly at fault for Rovers' first and will be disappointed to let in four. 6.5
Was having a good game - positive in everything he did. After his sending off though, harsh or not, the tie was taken away from PNE. Will learn from it. 6
Conceding four will be a frustration but lots of good signs in his display again. Comfortable on the ball, won headers and cleared plenty. 6.5
Looks to have a good partnership and relationship with Williams but two goals from corners leaves some question marks over the centre backs. 6
A breakdown in communication with Corcoran for Rovers' first goal. Other than that, he got up and down, worked hard and switched across to right back and did a job following the sending off. 6
Star man. Excellent throughout and pretty much every time Preston look liked scoring, he was involved. Scored one and played a part in the other. 8.5
Him and McManus compliment each other well in the middle. A pretty solid, industrious performance. 7
Almost pulled it back to 3-3 right at the end with a really well worked effort. Impressive in midfield again. 7
Started the game really brightly and had some joy down the left hand side. Drifted in and out and slotted in at left back when PNE went down to ten. 7
Put Preston back in the lead with a straight forward, but well taken finish. Had to be in the right place at the right time and he was. Caught the eye again - bags of skill, pace and never takes the easy option. 8
Worked hard, put himself about and ran into the channels. Linked play up at times but had a great chance in the first half which he should've done better with. 6
Jacob Holland Wilkinson
Did well off the bench - offered a threat and gave North End a boost at the top end of the pitch. 6.5
Aaron Bennett & Joe Blanchard
Both introduced very late in the match.
