A huge explosion has rocked Ayr tonight after a blast destroyed a house.

The explosion took place in Gorse Park in the Kincaidstone area of the town shortly after 7pm on Monday.

The cause of the blast is not yet known.

Police Scotland are asking members of the public to stay away from the scene while the incident remains ongoing.

At least three fire appliances have rushed to the scene with multiple police cars and ambulances in attendance.

It is not currently known whether anyone has been injured or how many properties have been affected.

Rubble was seen strewn across the ground and one picture appears to show the roof blown completely off the property.

A dad-of-three who heard a "massive explosion" half a mile away said it "sounded like a bomb going off, it was deafening."

It is understood that the sound from the blast could be heard up to three miles away, according to reports on social media.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of an explosion at a property on Gorse Park in Ayr shortly after 7.10pm on Monday, 18 October.

“Emergency services are currently at the scene.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they are in attendance.
