Ex-Liverpool star Ozan Kabak to have ‘contract TERMINATED by Schalke as recently-relegated club can’t afford to pay him’

SCHALKE are considering terminating the contract of former Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak having so far failed to find the player a transfer.

The Reds paid £1million to loan the Turkey international in January but opted against a £17m purchase option.

The centre-back failed to impress in just 13 appearances and Liverpool instead turned their attention to Ibrahima Konate, who signed from RB Leipzig earlier this summer.

A wealth of clubs have been linked with Kabak, 21, since but a move has failed to get off the ground.

Therefore, Schalke could be forced into terminating his contract as they struggle to pay his wages.

The German giants were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga last season and journalist Constantin Eckner has claimed on the Blood Red Club podcast that drastic measures may have to be taken.

Kabak's contract runs to 2024 and SunSport revealed in May that he was demanding a whopping £80,000 weekly salary to move back to the Premier League.

Leicester have been strongly linked with the defender, who remained on the bench for Turkey's short Euro 2020 campaign.

Schalke were said to be demanding £12.8m for the transfer but could now be about to lose him for free.

The club have already allowed him time off from pre-season training to push through his exit.

Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Nice and Rennes have also been linked with a bid - although the Eagles' deal for Joachim Andersen could end their interest.
