A man has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after an alleged stabbing in Birtley.
Police were called to an address on Garside Avenue in Gateshead just after 6am on Monday and found a man with stab injuries.
An investigation was launched and a 43-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault.

She has since been released on police bail.
Officers are still at the scene carrying out enquires and part of the road remains cordoned off.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: â€œAt about 6.15am yesterday (Monday) we were alerted by the ambulance service that they were attending a report of an injured male at an address on Garside Avenue, Gateshead.
â€œOfficers attended and found a man inside who had sustained an injury consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
â€œAn investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident. â€œA 43-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on police bail. Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries.
â€œAll parties involved are believed to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.â€
