Zirkzee competition

Everton will reportedly face competition from Parma and Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Bayern Munich youngster Joshua Zirkzee.

A report from talkSPORT this morning claimed the 19-year-old Dutch striker will join the Blues on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

However, Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that the Blues and Parma are in talks with Munich to sign Zirkzee on loan, after Eintracht Frankfurt also tried weeks ago.

Before the report concluded by claiming that the forward wants to play and that no decision has yet been made.

Rooney hoping to make history in managerial career

Wayne Rooney has admitted he wouldn’t change anything from playing career and has revealed he is hoping to create history as a manager.

The former Everton forward has been appointed as the new Derby County boss on a two-and-half-year deal which will run until the summer of 2023.

Rooney has also elected to call time on his illustrious playing career to fully focus on his new job.

He said on his new role:

“It’s a great feeling. It’s something I’ve been preparing for, for a few years now. This football club is huge.

“This club will always be trying to grow and achieve big things. For me, to try and help the club get back to its glory days is a massive opportunity.

“My future is in management. I’ve had a great career with a few ups and a few downs, but I wouldn’t change anything. But now, I’d like to write some history in my managerial career.

“My whole life has been playing football, so I’m fortunate that I’m still part of it. It’s a new chapter for me.

“Will I miss playing? Of course. But, time doesn’t stop. I’ve had my time, it’s time for the younger generation to have their time and for me to guide them.”

Rooney appointed Derby boss

Derby County Football Club have appointed Wayne Rooney as the club’s new manager.

The former Everton forward takes up the position on a two-and-half-year deal which will run until the summer of 2023.

Rooney stepped up to lead Derby’s coaching team towards the end of November after former manager Phillip Cocu parted company with the club earlier that month.

Rooney’s first game as Derby’s new permanent manager will be tomorrow’s Championship fixture at home to Rotherham United.

He has also elected to call time on his illustrious playing career to fully focus on his new job.

Speaking on his appointment, Rooney said:

“When I first arrived back in the United Kingdom I was completely blown away by the potential of Derby County Football Club.

“The Stadium, Training Ground, the quality of the playing staff and the young players coming through and of course the fan base that has remained loyal and supportive.

“Despite other offers I knew instinctively Derby County was the place for me.

“To be given the opportunity to follow the likes of Brian Clough, Jim Smith, Frank Lampard and Phillip Cocu is such an honour and I can promise everyone in involved in the club and all our fans, my staff and I will leave no stone unturned in achieving the potential I have witnessed over the last 12 months of this historic football club.”

Bernard’s agent to hold talks

Bernard’s agent is reportedly flying to England for talks with Everton to try and engineer an exit for the Brazilian.

Linked with a move to Roma, Calcio Mercato, cited by Sport Witness, claim the Serie A side are ready to push ahead with a move for the midfielder after a move for Stephan El Shaarawy proved troublesome.

Meanwhile, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, cited by HITC, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Everton will demand €10m for Bernard.

“Everton are still waiting because if they sell Bernard anything can happen with new signings, so we have to understand what is going on, but at the moment nothing is advanced with Roma, he is one of the options, but not the first one and Roma are still waiting to make a bid.

“What I want to add is the price of Bernard, they want €10m (£8.9m) to sell Bernard, so let’s see in the coming weeks if someone will arrive with this kind of bid or with an obligation to buy.”

Kean battle

Everton could be set for interest from both PSG and Juventus for striker Moise Kean.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Juventus’ interest in the forward hasn’t gone away, with the move ‘still tempting’.

The report also claims that the Serie A giants ‘tried to do everything’ to get the player back in the last window.

But with PSG also believed to be keen to keep Kean after his impressive form this summer, battle will now resume ahead of next summer, with Juve remaining keen on signing the player.

Boro’s stance on Bolasie

Yannick Bolasie is down the pecking order of targets for Middlesbrough in the ongoing transfer window, according to Teesside Live.

Surplus to requirements at Goodison with six months left of his contract, Neil Warnock had wanted to sign the winger on loan last summer.

However, a deal did not happen despite negotiations going into the final day of the transfer window.

Teesside Live claim Boro retain interest in Bolasie, but will only make a move if they miss out on other targets this month.

Zirkzee 'deal close'

Everton are reportedly close to loan deal for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Zirkzee.

According to a report by talkSPORT, the 19-year-old Dutch striker will join the Blues on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Zirkzee is currently suspended from Bundesliga competition due to kicking TSV 1860 Munich goalkeeper Marco Hiller in the face last weekend .

Brands confirms James free transfer and explains £60m spend

Marcel Brands has revealed Everton spent just over £60m on signings in the last transfer window but confirmed James Rodriguez arrived on a free.

The director of football also confirmed that the club paid £200,000 in “training compensation” to sign Niels Nkounkou but Robin Olsen’s loan from AS Roma came without a fee.

Brands, in delivering his annual presentation at the General Meeting of the shareholders this evening, spoke of how the financial impact of the Covid pandemic forced the club to walk away from a “few” potential deals, with a move for Gabriel Magalhaes believed to be among them.

But Everton still managed to land players in three key positions and overcame the “one of the weirdest” transfer windows to land Rodriguez on a free transfer from Real Madrid.
