Everton-linked Idrissi says it would be 'crazy' not to want a move this summer
Everton-linked Oussama Idrissi has reiterated his desire to leave AZ this summer, claiming that he would be ‘crazy’ if he felt otherwise.
HITC quote the winger as telling De Telegraaf:
“I have analysed my season and that gives me even more ambition to take the next step.
"It was clear when AZ came in that AZ wouldn’t be my final destination.
“It would be crazy if I didn’t have that ambition. In the end, good footballers always want to act on the highest possible stage. In the Netherlands, that stage is missing.
“The Eredivisie does not have the intensity and the clubs to participate at top level. As a result, hardly any top players come to the Netherlands, the top players who do stay here usually do not stay very long."
The 24-year-old Morocco international - who has also been linked with a move to West Ham United - had 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for his Alkmaar-based club in the coronavirus-truncated 2019/20 Dutch season.
Jack Charlton has died
Some sad news from the world of football just emerging.
England World Cup winner Jack Charlton has died aged 85.
Ancelotti gave Digne the 'wow factor'
Left-back Lucas Digne reckons that manager Carlo Ancelotti has brought the "wow factor" to Everton.
SInce the Italian's arrival at Goodison Park in December, only two other Premier League clubs (Southampton, 14 points and Watford, 13 points) have enjoyed a bigger upsurge in points compared to their performances beforehand, than the Blues (9 points).
Digne told Sky Sports:
"When you read his name that he's officially appointed as Everton manager, you think 'wow, okay. Something is coming.' It's just a pleasure to play for him as a coach.
"He's really close to the players. He's really calm, and I think we need that. It transfers across to the team.
"When he has something to say, he'll say it to all the group, and when he's angry too. I think he has a very good relationship with the group.
"He's the boss! He won three Champions Leagues, he has a lot of experience.
"He can give a lot of advice to the players, you can learn a lot from him. I think all the players listen very carefully to what he says.
"If you learn you can be better, and with him I think we can build something very good."
Ancelotti insists he has 'lots of confidence' in Iwobi
Snapped up from Arsenal in a deal that could be worth up to £34million in the final minutes of last summer's transfer window, Alex Iwobi is the latest big money Everton signing to struggle to live up to his significant fee.
The Nigerian international has been hauled off by Carlo Ancelotti in all of the Blues last three matches - including getting the hook at half-time in the most recent two against Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
However, despite pressure mounting to overhaul an underachieving squad, the Italian has insisted that he still believes Iwobi can come good.
The Guardian quote Ancelotti as saying:
“I changed him against Tottenham because he had a little problem with his hamstring.
"Against Southampton I changed him to put more energy on that side and above all to change the system to a line of five.
"It is true he didn’t score, it’s true that he can do better sometimes but it’s also true that I have a lot of confidence in him.”
Man City target Blues defender
ESPN report that Manchester City are considering a move for Everton defender Lucas Digne this summer.
The former Premier League champions apparently face competition from rivals Chelsea for the frenchman’s signature as both sides see the Blues star as an alternative option to Leicester’s Ben Chillwell.
While the report does not mention a price tag for the 27-year-old, Carlo Ancelotti will surely do everything he can to keep hold a player who has been in such impressive form recently as he looks to rebuild his squad.
