Eustice confirms full-border closure 'under review' as fears of new Covid mutation grow

George Eustice says full-border closure 'can't be ruled out'

The Environment Secretary told Sky News that the UK Government is concerned regarding the number of mutant strains of coronavirus that have been discovered. Mr Eustice added that these fears are centred around the possibility that one of the mutant strains could be able to evade the COVID-19 vaccines within the UK.

Sky News host Gillian Joseph said: "There are reports that Ministers are pushing for a full closure of borders to foreign visitors.

"Is that something that you would want to see?"

Mr Eustice replied: "We always keep these things under review and it is being considered.

"There is concern at the moment about the number of mutant strains there are.
