An entire primary school in Preston has temporarily closed due to coroanvirus.

Queens Drive Primary School in Fulwood said they took the decision today (September 21) following advice from health and education officials.

The exact number of cases has not been confirmed because of patient confidentiality.

It is believed to be one of the first schools in Lancashire to completely shut due to the virus.

Assistant headteacher Mark Noblet told LancsLive they were informed of the positive test today and have 'very carefully' followed their risk assessment policies.

Pupils in all year groups have been sent home and advised to self-isolate for 14 days.

The school, rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, will reopen again to all students on Tuesday, October 6.

Mr Noblet said parents have been kept 'fully informed'.

Dozens of schools across Lancashire have been affected by Covid-19 since the start of term with thousands of pupils and some staff self-isolating.
