Emilia Clarke has opened up about her possible future within the Star Wars universe after playing a character in a Han Solo spin-off.

The 34-year-old was among the cast of 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story which served as a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy focusing on the early adventures of the iconic character Han Solo.

Harrison Ford played the character in the original film trilogy, and returned for the recent JJ Abrams produced sequel films – however it was 31-year-old American actor Alden Ehrenreich who played the character in the prequel.

Emilia featured in the film as Qi'ra – a childhood friend and love interest of Han who appears to double cross numerous characters over the course of the film.

The movie had been set to launch a new series of films focusing on the adventures of Han Solo – but all future plans were shelved when the outing underperformed in cinemas and was met with a critical mauling.

Emilia says she is unsure if she will receive a call from Disney, who own the Star Wars films, in the future to reprise her role.

She told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: "I have heard nothing. Absolutely nothing."

"I loved Qi'ra. Loved her, really, really did.

"I loved Han, I loved the story, I loved the people, I loved the experience."

The film itself went through a troubled production, with The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller originally due to helm the project but dropped out mid-way through filming due to creative differences with Oscar winning director Ron Howard stepping in to complete the project.

The film also had a high profile cast – with Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany all among the cast.

Emilia said the troubled production set the film off on the wrong foot, stating: "It was one of those ones where if you know too much about a celebrity, and you go and watch that movie and you're just thinking about how many kids Angelina Jolie has.

"Everyone went in knowing what our dirty laundry looked like. And you couldn't separate that gossip from the overall experience.”

Disney have recently announced a raft of new Star Wars TV projects following the success of spin-off show The Mandalorian – with Emilia saying she would gladly reprise her role on one of the shows.

However, she also thinks the character Lando Calrissian – who is played in Solo: A Star Wars Story by Donald Glover, while Billy Dee Williams played the character in the original films – should have a spin-off.

She said: "A Lando show makes so much sense. Give that man his own show! Yes!"

Meanwhile fans of the film have campaigned to have a sequel made – with the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen trending on social media on the anniversary of the film's release.

While others are demanding Emilia's character be given her own spin-off series to focus on the criminal organisation she is left working with at the end of the first Solo film.
