MEL Owen plays with fire in EastEnders next week as she goes to desperate lengths to flee Walford with her killer son, Hunter.
As the week kicks off Mel – who’s hiding Hunter after his jail break which viewers will see this week – is stunned when she’s confronted by Sharon, Billy and Ben Mitchell who all know Hunter’s escaped.
Sharon tries her best to comfort Mel – played by Tamzin Outhwaite in the BBC soap - but Ben’s suspicions are piqued after remembering he saw her acting suspiciously the previous day.
When they’re alone, Ben – Max Bowden - confronts Mel and tells her he saw her by the flat she’s hiding Hunter in.
Pressuring her to give him information about Lisa Fowler, Mel relents and gives Ben what he wants.
Later, a panicked Mel stuffs her bag with cash from the E20 safe before heading back to Hunter – Charlie Winter.
On her way, her paranoia grows and, noticing she’s upset, Jack Branning tries to offer her some comfort, but ends up putting his foot in it.
Things soon get worse for Mel when the police arrive with some shocking news for her. But what is it?
Feeling the pressure, Mel remains determined to flee with Hunter but she worries when Billy tells her that the other prisoners who escaped have all been caught.
She’s relieved when she finally gets the passports, but as she races home, Ben purposely bumps into her and he issues Mel an ultimatum.
As Mel makes her final preparations to leave Walford, she covers her tracks at work but her behaviour makes Sharon suspicious.
Mel realises how much she’s going to be leaving behind and manages to say an emotional goodbye to Amy Branning.
Will she and Hunter manage to flee Walford?
Tamzin revealed last month she was quitting EastEnders and that her character would have an ‘explosive final storyline.’
Speaking about her decision to leave, Tamzin said: “When John [Yorke] asked me to return to EastEnders back in 2017, I jumped at the chance to play Mel once more but it was only supposed to be for a year.
“That year quickly passed and I agreed to stay on for another, but now the time feels right to once again pursue other challenges.
“I will of course miss so many people here at EastEnders, and I will forever have good memories of my time at the show, but I am also excited to experience new roles outside of Walford.”
EastEnders' executive producer John Yorke added: “We are extremely grateful to Tamzin for reviving the character of Mel Owen back in 2017, allowing EastEnders fans the chance to see one of Walford’s most popular characters take centre stage once more.
“Tamzin is an incredible talent who has set our screens on fire with her wonderful performances in some of our most iconic storylines.
“We wish her the best of luck for the future.”
