EastEnders fans left heartbroken by Chantelle Atkin's death might soon see their upset turn to anger as the soap have revealed that there will be an appalling twist in the tale of the domestic abuse plot.

One of EastEnders highest audiences of 2020 to date tuned into see the tragic moment that Chantelle lost her life after finally standing up to her controlling other half who has tried to wear her down with a tirade of abuse which has only got worse over the past year.

As she screamed at him to move out of her way he shoved her causing her to fall backwards onto an open dishwasher and straight onto knifes that were on the shelf.

And as she lay there helpless and struggling to breathe, Gray, instead of rushing to get help, went to the Queen Vic for a swift drink and then to the shop for some milk which he then used in a callous course of action to stage Chantelle's death and make it look like an accident, smashing the milk on the floor and leaving one of the couple's children's toy trucks next to it.

Fans couldn't believe what they were watching and it sounds like they're going to be left even more furious in the weeks to come as it looks like the eye of suspicion will turn on Kheerat Panesar who was all too aware of Chantelle living in fear of Gray as he was in on her escape plan.

But as he confides in her dad Mitch about being in love with Chantelle, it looks like he could unknowingly be putting himself in the frame for her murder.

Speaking in a recent interview, Roger Griffiths who plays Mitch said: "Firstly, Mitch wants to know who this man is.

"Kheerat is telling Mitch that his daughter was unfaithful to her husband – that’s the first shock. Then Mitch thinks, ‘Why is he telling me this? Is he covering up himself?’ It’s big news."

Some fans have already predicted that Gray will attempt to frame Kheerhat. One tweeted: "better not show Gray getting away with murder for any length of time or it’ll just make abusers think they can get away with it as well," and another posted: "I understand why Chantelle had to die because it’s the harrowing truth to DV.

"But I really hope gray doesn’t get away with murder, that is NOT what we need to see!"

Taking things further, a third said they'll stop watching the show, commenting: "If Gray doesn't get caught or Kheerat gets framed for Chantelle's murder i think i will have to boycott eastenders for a while."
