EastEnders fans have been quick to praise actresses Kellie Bright and Linda Henry for their performances in Monday night's harrowing episode which saw Kellie's character's drinking problem escalate to traumatic new heights.

Over the past few months, viewers of the BBC soap have seen Linda Carter's battle with the bottle spiral well out of control, resulting in the Queen Vic landlady becoming involved with the huge Keanu 'murder' storyline over Christmas and almost cheating on husband Mick as she lost all control.

And Linda, played by former Upper Hand child star Kellie, was at the centre of some truly shocking scenes on Monday night's EastEnders when she hit the drink once again, despite promising her family she'd stay away from it. This time, her drunken behaviour put young Ollie in danger much to the dismay of Mick, played by Danny Dyer and his mum Shirley, played by Linda Henry.

While she was passed out on the kitchen table with smoke billowing out of the oven, the toddler yelled: "Mummy, mummy" to try and alert but struggled to wake her even as the smoke alarm sounded in the kitchen.

To try and escape the noise, Ollie ran out onto the Queen Vic roof, getting dangerously close to the edge before being brought to safety.

Shirley, left absolutely by Linda's recklessness dragged her into the bath and sprayed her with cold water, screaming "you are not the first women to be raped, you are not the first woman to have cancer.

"This is not Mick's fault. This is not Ollie's fault. This is all your doing. When you were passed out like a tramp Ollie climbed onto the roof."

As Linda dragged herself out out and stumbled onto the floor, Shirley yelled: "Crawled up on the floor the alcoholic landlady sobbed as Shirley told her: "Have you finally got it now Linda?

"Has the penny finally dropped? Your drinking is hurting him. This is nobody's fault but yours."

"You are going to therapy tomorrow or you will never ever be alone with Ollie again."

As Linda sank further into despair, EastEnders famous 'duff duffs' sounded and, as the credits rolled, viewers took to Twitter both disturbed but impressed by the handling of the scenes and the acting performances.

One reacted "Damn... What a powerful episode. That Linda and Shirley scene in the bathtub gave me chills," and another tweeted " @kelliebright76 your acting is f***ing amazing! Makes me so sad watching Linda’s alcohol problem and the effects it’s having on her family. So many people will relate to this I’m sure. Well done."

Praising Linda Henry's performance, another viewer posted: "These scenes were electric. Linda Henry is awesome when given the chance," and praising all three actors involved, another commented "Kellie bright, Linda Henry and Danny dyer...a very truthful performance , the shower scene was one of the best I’ve seen for a long time, made me want to cry and be angry at the same time. Love this storyline as I’ve seen many go through it."
