A drive-through vaccination clinic has opened in Preston offering free flu jabs to people over 50.

The appointment-only clinic is running at West View Leisure Centre, Ribbleton Lane, from today (November 25) to Friday, November 27, from 9am to 5.30pm.

It is operated by Pharmacy2U, the UK’s largest online pharmacy, and the vaccinations are being carried out by a team of pharmacists with trained St John Ambulance first aiders providing support.

All members are wearing appropriate PPE and conform to the highest NHS and COVID-19 standards, organisers say.

In line with the government’s recent announcement, the vaccinations will be available for free to everyone over the age of 50, ahead of a ‘winter like no other’ to fight the ‘twin threats’ of flu and Covid-19.

Phil Day, superintendent pharmacist at Pharmacy2U, said"As we enter what could be a difficult winter for many, this is a much-needed service for people up and down the country.

"In a year that’s seen much devastating health news, we’ve worked extremely hard behind the scenes and through our partnership with St John Ambulance to be able to bring this offering to fruition to help our existing and new patients, and to help alleviate pressure from the NHS.”

Graham Ellis, Community Operations Manager for St John Ambulance said: "St John Ambulance is proud to partner with Pharmacy2U in providing this vital service.

"Our treatment centres and fully trained first aiders will be supporting pharmacists to give patients their all-important flu jab, close to home and in a COVID secure setting.

"Helping to maintain the health resilience of our communities is at the heart of what we do, and even more important as we face a tougher than usual winter."

Flu vaccinations will be available for free for patients that meet the NHS eligibility requirements, and additionally offered at an affordable rate for anyone else. For the full list of eligibility requirements, visit the website here.
