Tony Smith has revealed Matty Storton and Ethan Ryan suffered suspected broken hands in Hull KR’s 48-18 defeat to Leeds Rhinos.

KR’s Challenge Cup hopes were in tatters inside the opening quarter at the Totally Wicked Stadium as Leeds ran in four tries to build up an unassailable lead.

The injuries to young pair Storton and Ryan rounded off a miserable evening for the Robins.

“Matty has a suspected broken hand and Ethan Ryan also has a suspected broken hand,” said Smith.

“As far as I know they’re the only two injuries at this stage.

“I think everybody else has come through OK.”

Rovers scored three tries in the second half as they clawed back some respectability.

Jamie Ellis claimed a double but faces an anxious wait to discover if he will be punished for an alleged bite on James Donaldson.

“I did have a chance to see the replay of the incident with Jamie,” said Smith.

“He was on his back and got a finger or thumb in his mouth. Obviously it felt some teeth.

“He was laying there without a finger in his mouth and then someone put one in it.

“I don’t know why he was putting his hand in his mouth. I hope it wasn’t one of those wishbone type incidents we’ve heard of.

“I’m not sure who’s on report. It’ll be interesting to see which way that one goes.”

The Robins have produced some big efforts in recent weeks and Smith admitted they ran out of steam against a Leeds side that came out firing.

“We took too long to get off the bus,” he said.

“They did a good job. They started quickly and effectively, and we didn’t.

“There was a bit of a reaction in the second half but it took us way too long to get into that match.
