Donald Trump began to refer to himself using the third person as his presidency crumbled in the wake of his election loss, it was claimed.

The President of the United States raged at his former Attorney General Bill Barr for refuting election fraud claims, saying: ‘Why would you say such a thing? You must hate Trump. There’s no other reason for it. You must hate Trump.’

President Trump lashed out after Barr’s on-the-record interview dismissing his boss’s fraud claims last November. He is said to have had another foul-mouthed clash with his former attorney general after being told not to deploy US troops to the riot-hit cities of Portland and Seattle.

According to Axios, Trump slammed his hand on his desk and raged at Barr: ‘No one supports me. No one gives me any fucking support.’ Trump and Barr’s formerly strong relationship began to crumble over the summer, after the president called for US forces to deal with looting and rioting in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.

But Barr warned Trump against such action, telling him troops could get stuck in a US city for months, and that the unrest appeared to have hit a peak. Barr further angered Trump by hitting out at Trump’s claims that Joe Biden had stolen the November election – and told the president the lawyers he’d appointed to fight the result were ‘clownish.’

Barr resigned from his job in December, over claims he’d feared his worsening relationship with Trump was on the verge of descending into a public slanging match.

Trump is expected to leave Washington DC around 8am on Wednesday morning, four hours before his successor Joe Biden’s swearing-in ceremony begins.

He will be the first president in 160 years not to watch his replacement get sworn-in.
