Divorced dad ‘shot dead his two boys, 8 and 10, while babysitting them for ex-wife before turning gun on himself’

A DIVORCED dad allegedly shot dead his two boys, 8 and 10, while babysitting them for his ex-wife before turning gun on himself, police said.

Utah police have not identified the man in the gruesome Tuesday incident, but said he and his wife were separated for "some time," The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

South Jordan police said the mother returned home from work on Tuesday between 3:30 and 4pm, when she called for help.

“It was a horrible scene,” Lt. Matt Pennington said.

When police arrived, the mother was tending to her eight-year-old son, Pennington said.

Cops found the ten-year-old son and the father in other rooms, he added.

Pennington said the eight-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died.

It's believed the biological father shot the two boys when he was reportedly watching them, Pennington said.

The boys were identified as Ezra, 10, and Seth, 8 in a GoFundMe set up by a family friend to help with funeral expenses and financial support.

Ezra was described as "an artistic, imaginative boy who loved to throw parties," and someone who "loved making others feel special."

Seth was a "ball of energy" who "loved to be outside, play nerf gun wars with his friends, and finding adventures," the GoFundMe said.

"These boys were Ying and Yang; except for their love of reading," the GoFundMe said.

The GoFundMe had raised over $41,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

“This is one of the worst [calls] you’re going to go on,” Pennington said, as reported by KSL News Radio.

“We’ve all got young kids. That’s going to be a real difficult one to deal with for all of us.”

Police said they've gotten called to the home in the past about domestic incidents, KSL reported.

It had been several months since they last received a call, however.

Cops have not yet released the identity of the father.

South Jordan City Mayor Dawn Ramsey made an emotional speech on Tuesday night to talk about the incident, Fox 13 reported.

"There are people who can help, there are people you can talk to," she said, speaking about domestic violence.

"I just implore those listening, to please reach out for help. Talk to someone-- anyone you trust-- if you need help."

She added: "This is just a tragedy on every level. There is nothing that's okay about this."
