Dejan Lovren claims Liverpool miss him ‘more than I miss them’ amid defensive injury crisis

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren says he has no regrets over leaving Premier League champions Liverpool, despite the shortage of defensive options the Anfield club are dealing with.

The Croatian international, who played in the World Cup final in 2018, was a bit-part player for his final two campaigns on Merseyside, playing 18 and 15 times in all competitions across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

That has led to midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson filling in at the back, but Lovren does not wish he had made a different choice and feels circumstances mean it’s the club who might be having regrets instead.

"No, I do not regret it. My decision in the summer was firm - to leave Liverpool, and I do not look back," he told Sport-Express, per Goal.

"I got upset last season when I didn't play, but now everything is different.

"I think Liverpool miss me more than I miss them. Jurgen Klopp knows this, because we talk. He wrote to me recently: 'We miss you'."

Despite Liverpool’s lack of senior numbers at the back, it has been the attack which has struggled in recent weeks after going three straight games without a Premier League goal.

However, even with a patchwork back four, Klopp’s side have only conceded three goals in their past six games.
