A cyclist has suffered a serious leg injury after his bicycle was involved in a collision with a car in Cleveleys.

Emergency services are currently on the scene at Cleveleys Avenue.

The incident was reported at around 3pm today and the road is closed in both directions near to the junction with York Avenue.

Police said the cyclist, a man in his 70s, is being treated by paramedics.

He is understood to have suffered a suspected broken leg.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

In a post on Facebook, Thornton Cleveleys and Poulton Police said: "We currently have road closures in place on Cleveleys Avenue, close to the junction with York Avenue, after a car was involved in a collision with a cyclist.

"The cyclist, a man in his 70s, has suffered a serious leg injury and is being treated by paramedics.

"We are advising motorists to avoid the area while emergency services attend the incident."
