A heartless murderer has been jailed for 28 years after hammering and stabbing his wife to death.
Andriejus Kostiajevas, 47, attacked his wife Ligita Kostiajeviene, 42, with a hammer, before stabbing her to death in a bedroom at their home in Peterborough, Cambs.
Police camera footage shows blood-splattered Kostiajevas hiding in his shed for an hour, covered in blood, refusing to come down from the rafters.
The murderer eventually gave in and climbed down, which is when he was handcuffed and shoved into the back of a police van.
On Wednesday, court found that he had stabbed his wife 28 times and also turned the same blade on a young child.
He stabbed the innocent child nine times, leaving the child with limited use of his left hand.
The boy required surgery in an attempt to repair the nerve damage endings.
The trial heard that a female neighbour overheard him arguing with his wife, and she went to their room to intervene.
When she saw the cold-blooded murderer holding a knife, she tried to persuade him to put it down.
He ignored her, and stabbed his wife, shortly before chasing her out of the room.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Ligita passed shortly after. She had been stabbed multiple times and also had head injuries.
Despite this, Kostiajevas denied charges of murder, attempted murderer, and assault on an emergency worker.
Whilst being transported to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment, Kostiajevas kicked a police officer in the face, causing an injury to his eye.
Two hammers were recovered from the property, one of which had Ligita’s hair attached to it.
The woman’s postmortem concluded that she died as a result of severe head injuries caused by multiple blows.
She has left an adult daughter behind, and has been described as a loving and caring mother who will be missed more than words can say.
