Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has revealed her hopes for Leanne Battersby and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and their future.
The couple are currently in an awful situation due to Simon Barlow's involvement with drug dealer Harvey, which resulted in Nick's son being kidnapped.
Speaking about Nick's involvement in it all, Jane told press including The Mirror that Leanne didn't actually want him to get caught up in it all.
"She tried to protect Nick and not tell him anything and in doing so, she kind of alienated herself and became a little bit distant," the 42-year-old actress explained.
Asked if she thinks they will survive their current ordeal and remain a couple once it's all over, Jane wasn't necessarily sure that they would.
"I think what's really nice about the two characters is, for myself, I dipped into the old classic Corries that are on ITV2 at the moment on the odd afternoon I've had off, and Nick and Leanne are very prominent in that time," she said.
"It's 24 years ago so you go, 'isn't that fab that them two characters are kind of still together?' And we've gone back and forth over the years, they've split up, they've got back together, they've been off with other people, but Ben and I love working together.
"We've got a great working relationship and we really trust each other and it's just lovely so we sort of campaigned constantly for them to be together just because we like working together and it makes our day nice," she continued.
"But on a serious note, from a creative point of view as well, we want them to have a happy ever after, which I don't think they ever will in terms of life stuff but hopefully they can see it through together," Jane added.
Speaking about having to film their current storyline with social distancing, she explained: "It would have been much more physical and I think the scenes would have been different.
"It is frustrating, we’ve got used to that way of working so it’s not ideal," she admitted.
