Corrie fans joke Peter Barlow actor Chris Gascoyne shouldn’t be drinking at Xmas party because character is an alcoholic

OFF THE WAGON

CORONATION Street fans are joking Peter Barlow actor Chris Gascoyne shouldn't be drinking at the show's Christmas party as his character is an alcoholic.

A group of lads from the ITV soap - including Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) and Andy Whyment - met at a bar before their festive celebrations.

Andy - who plays Kirk Sutherland on the soap - shared the pic with Chris holding a glass of Guinness in his hands.

However, fans began joking that Chris shouldn't be drinking - because his character Peter is an alcoholic and will die if he continues to drink.

One person said: "Should peter be drinking"

Another added: "Peter you shouldn't be drinking pal."

A third added: "No way is Peter back on the bevvies".

The Corrie cast and crew all descended on Harvey Nichols in Manchester City Centre on Friday night.

Andy Whyment, Alan Halsall and Colson Smith arrived together, with Jack P Shepherd meeting them later alongside his girlfriend Hanni Treweek.

Chris has played the recovering alcoholic since 2000.

Peter Barlow recently fell off the wagon after a shaky time with partner Carla Connor (Alison King).

He has opened up in the past about how the only way Peter Barlow would leave Weatherfield would be in a coffin after "drinking himself into oblivion".

Speaking to The Sun Online last year, he said: "If they said to me that they were going to write Peter out or I told them that I was finished for good, he would have to drink himself to death.

"I don't think it would be a very nice storyline, but it would be brilliant. Something tragic would happen and he falls off the wagon again and drinks himself into oblivion. I would like to do that."
