Coronation Street's Johnny Connor was brutally attacked by his prison cellmate in Monday's double bill, and the harrowing scenes were too much for some fans.

Johnny, played by Richard Hawley, has been suffering from complications of his multiple sclerosis diagnosis since being put behind bars in January.

As well as going blind, he has been struggling with his mobility because of his debilitating illness.

So Corrie viewers were sickened when the popular Rovers Return landlord was kicked by a fellow prisoner.

Coronation Street fans were sickened over the prison violence scene as Johnny was attacked

"Corrie has ruined my night seeing Johnny like that has broke my heart," tweeted one.

"Ugh feel sick seeing Johnny getting kicked in," said another.

"Oh no Johnny," said one viewer with a crying face.

"Can someone please come and rescue Johnny from prison it's very stressful," said another fan.

And another shouted: "OH FFS WHY ISN'T JOHNNY IN A MEDICAL UNIT!"

Johnny was in agony

Johnny's cellmate attacked him after suspecting that the older man was drug dealer.

But the drugs were Johnny's MS medication.

"I'm the only dealer on this wing," he shouted.

"I'm not a drug dealer," protested Johnny.

Before he could explain any further Kai was seen kicking down on him.

Jenny was upset to see the state of Johnny

Viewers didn't see the actual attack but in the following prison scene they saw Johnny lying on the floor in agony.

Johnny was later visited by his adoring wife Jenny who was upset to see his bloodied face.

And she was distraught when he explained that his cellmate had spotted him with his medication because he hadn't been taking it.

He admitted that he’d stopped taking his pills because he doesn’t want his eyesight to improve as he won’t see his late son Aidan again.

Last month he was diagnosed with Charles Bonnet Syndrome, a condition some people get when they lose their vision, causing them to have visual hallucinations.

Johnny had been hallucinating seeing Aidan who took his own life in the ITV soap in 2018.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison for a historic armed robbery that led to the death of a security guard, leaving Jenny to run the pub with Daisy Midgeley, her stepdaughter from her previous marriage.
