Another 324 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, bringing the official death toll – as of Tuesday – to 39,369.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the country also rose by 1,613, after 135,643 tests were carried out nationwide, the Department of Health and Social Care confirmed.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the UK to 277,985.

Meanwhile, Black, Asian and minority ethnic people are ‘at much greater risk’ of dying from coronavirus than white people, Public Health England (PHE) has confirmed.

The review by PHE, published yesterday, found that people of Bangladeshi ethnicity had around twice the risk of death than people of white British ethnicity. People of Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, other Asian, Caribbean and Black ethnicity had between 10% and 50% higher risk of death, PHE said.
