The total coronavirus death toll in the UK – as of Friday – stands at 44,131.
Meanwhile Saturday 4 July brings with it sweeping changes to lockdown measures, with pubs, hairdressers and restaurants able to reopen again providing they are ‘Covid-secure’.
The Prime Minister said on LBC on Friday: ‘We are going to reopen gyms as soon as we can do it in a Covid-secure way and I think that the date for reopening gyms at the moment, if we can do it, is in just a couple of weeks’ time.’
He also added he wants to be able to reopen theatres ‘as fast as we possibly can’.
‘The best way forward for the country is to get the economy moving again,’ he said, ‘We want to get every part of our industry, including theatres, that are so vital.’
