Coronation Street viewers could not believe their ears on Monday when Simon Barlow had some uncomfortable home truths for mum Leanne Battersby.
Grieving mum Leanne found Simon's stash of drugs and was devastated to learn he was dealing drugs, realising what Nick's son Sam had seen was really an assault.
As Sam had lashed out at school after witnessing the attack, Nick was furious at Simon and told Leanne he could not believe she could not see what was happening.
But when Leanne confronted Simon about his drug dealing, he told her it was her fault as she was so busy grieving for Oliver, he was the only person in the family working.
"You can't pay bills with tears and feathers," he told Leanne. "I didn't have a choice".
Opening the door, Leanne replied: "Leave, there's your choice."
Simon shot back: "Sometimes you don't even get off the sofa."
Leanne asked: "What has happened to you? I am ashamed of myself for raising nothing more than a drug dealer."
rent? You were obsessed, while you were running around chasing feathers, we were sinking.
"And you're not the only one without a choice, because I am in this and I am in it deep whether I like it or not. That's it, stand there being all ashamed of me, but all of this is on you."
Viewers were shocked and divided as some applauded Simon for telling Leanne to get her act together, but others thought he was disrespectful.
One tweeted: "Well done Leanne on confronting Simon # corrie @ itvcorrie :.
""You can't pay bills with tears and feathers." The first worthwhile thing Simon has ever said. # Corrie ," added another.
But a third wrote: "I can see what Simon means about feathers not paying bills but selling drugs will end up in you either getting killed by drug gangs or put in prison for selling. # Corrie ".
A fourth added: "Simon throwing it back on Leanne that was uncalled for. Leanne should have her own way to greave for her son. Simon should accept that # Corrie ".
" # Corrie Simon blaming Leanne is lousy," agreed a fifth.
