A Conservative Party Conference event with Jacob Rees-Mogg was rudely interrupted by an adult dating website.
Commenters jumped on the Business Secretary’s live conversation with The Daily Telegraph yesterday, advertising ‘CHAT-69. XYZ’, much to the amusement of social media.
Twitter users entertained by the contrast with the thoughts of Mr Rees-Mogg – whose values have often been compared to the Victorian era – promptly screenshotted the unlikely interaction.
Joe’s Political Correspondent Ava-Santina Evans spotted the unusual interest in the secretary of state, tweeting: ‘Live chat for Jacob Rees Mogg at Tory conference has been hijacked by an adult dating site’.
The paper did not immediately respond to Metro.co.uk’s request for comment.
Meanwhile, speaking on the recording of Chopper’s Politics Live, Mr Rees-Mogg seemingly sunk plans for a new royal yacht.
He said the proposal – championed by interviewer Christopher Hope and backed by Boris Johnson – are not in the ‘realms of reality’ and called for it to be scrapped.
The Business Secretary described it as a ‘ship that has sailed’, as he said the ‘glorious distraction’ set to cost £250 million could not go ahead in a cost-of-living crisis.
However, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the design phase for a would-be new national flagship is due to be completed, with an announcement expected to follow.
Labour has previously said the plan for a ship to succeed the Royal Yacht Britannia should be scrapped.
There appears to be no date in sight for a formal announcement, though.
The money for the boat had been set to come from the MoD budget.
