An urgent search is under way for a missing man last seen on the Lancashire border, some 250 miles from his home.

Martin Smith was last seen at Southport Hospital's A&E department on Saturday morning (April 10) at around 7am.

The nature of the 29-year-old's visit to the hospital has not been made public, but Merseyside Police have issued an urgent appeal to find him by releasing his photo.

Martin is from Hungate Street in Aylsham, Norfolk; some 254 miles away and a five hour drive from Southport.

A police spokesperson said: "We're appealing for the public's help to trace Martin Smith, who is missing from home.

"Martin, aged 29, is missing from his home in Hungate Street, Aylsham, Norfolk.

"He was last seen at Southport Hospital Accident and Emergency Department on Saturday 10 April, at around 7am."

He is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall, and of medium build.

Martin has short black wavy hair and brown eyes.
