'Clearly loved that' Queen beams at magnificent Red Arrows fly past at Trooping the Colour

The Queen appeared to be overjoyed to see the Red Arrows roar above Windsor Castle today as a fly past marked the end of Trooping the Colour. The beaming monarch was left in awe as the exhibitionist team rocketed past leaving a smoke trail of red, white and blue painted across the sunny Windsor skies as the Queen marked her official birthday, her first without her late husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

As the rumble of the jets came over the ancient walls of Windsor Castle, her Majesty looked up in amazement.

Leaving a trail of the British standard strewn across the blue skies above Windsor Castle the Queen was left in astonishment and gave a stunning smile.

BBC's Huw Edwards noted: "Well her majesty clearly loved that!

"Nine aricraft in formation above Windsor just to bring this parade to conclusion."

For the first time after 24 years, was trooped the Queen's Colour of F Company Scots Guards. 

Trooping the colour is usually celebrated near Buckingham Palace where the Household Division marches and carries a regimental flag, the 'colour'. 

But today marks the Queen's first Trooping the Colour without her beloved late husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The parade saw tunes played by the military band of the Welsh Guards which the Queen could be seen tapping her feet to.

Trooping the colour is usually celebrated near Buckingham Palace where the Household Division marches and carries a regimental flag, the 'colour'. 

But this year's Trooping the Colour will see a reduced parade in the grounds of Windsor Castle led by the Scots Guards.

Today's parade will see F Company Scots Guards Troop the Colour of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards through the ranks of guardsmen on parade.

But today's Trooping of the Colour will be the first the Queen attends without her late husband Philip.

Trooping the Colour marks the Queen's 'official' birthday.

It is the selected day in a number of country's across the Commonwealth when the birthday of the monarch is officially celebrated.

The Queen's 'real' birthday is 21st April - this she turned 95, having been born in 1926.

This year's birthday was the first without Prince Philip whom she was married to for 73 years - he died on 9th April 2021, aged 99. He would have turned 100 this week on the 10th June.
