Christmas is only days away so naturally panic is starting to set in for many shoppers who have chosen to hit supermarkets and Liverpool's city centre today.

With this weekend being the last until Christmas, stores were always expected to have huge queues but reports across social media suggest some were so big they went outside.

On Twitter, user @RobbieH46 said: "The queue in GAME in Liverpool is out the door, it's actually vomit inducing, and I only wanted to go in for a look never mind the poor f***s working in there."

And user @fonty9 said: "Wow that Zara queue has hit a new high today."

ECHO photographers were also out in the city centre today as shoppers rushed down church street stocking up on last minute presents.

Across supermarkets things didn't seem any calmer as there were even reports of tears over a loaf of bread in one Tesco store.

On Twitter a user shared: "saw raised voices & tears just over which loaf to buy during my time in Tesco, the mind boggles at times."

User @BennBrownn said: "Supermarkets are a joke this time of year only went in Tesco to get a £3 meal deal and nearly got taken out about 47 times."

@Birchbags said: "Dunno what's going on but Tesco is heaving."

Of course, Tesco wasn't the only supermarket to be busy this afternoon. User @megan_96 even suggested Asda needed to have a bar in the middle of its stores to help shoppers cope.

She said: "They need a bar in the middle of Asda on Days like today."

It's not surprising so many shoppers are out finishing their Christmas shopping today as many stores have already started Boxing Day sale early and supermarkets have cut the prices of its bags of veg.

Budget supermarket Aldi, which is selling veg for around 15p was also reportedly busy. On Twitter @tomderbyshire96 said: "That is the first and last time I go into Aldi. F*****g mayhem."
