A number of children were among those evacuated from a house in Ilford this lunchtime after a fire broke out in an outbuilding before spreading to the nearby home.
The London Fire Brigade tweeted at 1.58pm that four fire engines and 25 firefighters had been called to reports of a fire at a building in York Road, Ilford.
Eyewitnesses told a Recorder reporter at the scene that a number of people - many of them children - fled the building and were able to take refuge in the Kids Inc Nursery across the street while the emergency services responded.

Firefighters remain on the scene now, and it is believed those evacuated are being made comfortable at the Punjabi Lounge restaurant further down York Road.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman confirmed the fire was first reported at 1.40pm, adding: "An outhouse is alight and part of the first floor of a two-storey building is also alight.
"The brigade's 999 Control Officers have taken 21 calls to the fire.
"Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Leytonstone and Dagenham are at the scene."
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
