Manchester Arndale's latest restaurant signing is set to ruffle some feathers.

Slim Chickens has revealed plans for a new branch at the shopping centre - right next door to Nando's.

An application has been lodged to convert the former Bella Italia unit on the Upper Mall, which is squeezed in between the popular peri-peri chain and burger bar Five Guys.

Slim Chickens already has 11 sites in the UK, including a Trafford Centre branch which opened in the Great Hall last year in the former Carluccio's unit.

Founded in Arkansas, USA, in 2003, the brand specialises in buttermilk-marinated and breaded chicken tenders and buffalo wings with a huge selection of sauces.

Owners Boporan Restaurant Group claim the food is 'so delicious, it is life changing' in a job advert recruiting for staff at the new Arndale site.

BRG began the chain's UK expansion three years ago, adding to a portfolio which includes the remaining Carluccio's restaurants as well as Giraffe, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Ed's Easy Diner.

A Slim Chickens branch in Nottingham

Slim Chickens is the latest addition to the Arndale's food and drink line-up, joining the likes of newly-opened Döner Shack, which launched with a four-hour kebab giveaway on Thursday.

The Berlin-inspired kebab house is situated at the opposite end of the shopping centre in the £11m Halle Place food quarter, alongside Archie's Burgers and Shakes, PizzaLuxe, Wolf Italian Street Food and Barburrito.

An opening date for Slim Chickens has not yet been confirmed. The M.E.N has contacted BRG and the Arndale for a comment.
