Chelsea have wasted no time in strengthening their squad this summer.
The signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been secured, with the Stamford Bridge club also linked with high profile moves for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
This is shaping up to be one of the most significant summer windows of the Roman Abramovich era. The Blues seem intent on closing the gap between themselves and the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City and this is resulting in a lot of speculation. Here are three of today’s biggest and most intriguing transfer stories.
Chelsea leading pursuit for Havertz
His name has been a staple of the transfer gossip column for a number of weeks, months even, with Havertz among Europe’s most sought after players right now. Chelsea, however, are leading the pursuit of the Bayer Leverkusen man.
DW (via Caught Offside) claim the Stamford Bridge outfit have moved to the front of the queue to secure the signature of the 20-year-old despite recent reports linking him with a move to both Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
The Evening Standard also reports Chelsea have stepped up their chase of Havertz with the player set for talks with Bayer Leverkusen to sort out his future after the club’s season came to a close with the DFB-Pokal final defeat to Bayern Munich at the weekend.
The German champions’ interest in Havertz is well-documented, but it is claimed they have dropped out of the race to sign the midfielder having finally secured the signing of Leroy Sane last week.
Lazio star targeted as potential midfield solution
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been identified as a potential target for Chelsea this summer with initial contact made between the Premier League club and Lazio.
Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim Chelsea are among a group of elite level clubs looking at the Serbian midfielder, with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also interested.
The next few weeks will be crucial in determining Milinkovic-Savic’s future, with Claude Makelele reportedly aiding Chelsea in their efforts to sign the 25-year-old.
Lazio previously demanded a fee of €100million for Milinkovic-Savic two years ago, but that valuation has since dropped, making the Serbian a more attractive proposition to a number of clubs including the Blues.
Bayern Munich defender told Chelsea decision will be left to him
David Alaba will have the freedom to decide whether or not he wants to make a summer switch to the Premier League, with Chelsea believed to be strongly interested in the Bayern Munich defender.
As reported by Mirror Football , the Bundesliga champions hope the Austrian will sign a new contract to stay at the Allianz Stadium, but will allow Alaba to make his own decision on whether to stay or go.
Alaba has been in exceptional form for Bayern Munich this season, being converted into a central defender having been a left-sided full back for a number of years.
This versatility makes him appealing to Chelsea who are in need of both a new centre-back and left back this summer.
