Chelsea are reportedly close to sealing a £120million deal for Jadon Sancho as they bid to beat Manchester United to the Borussia Dortmund winger.
The 19-year-old has made Europe's top clubs sit up and take notice with his impressive scoring record, having smashed in nine Bundesliga goals so far this season to add to the 12 he fired last term.
Sancho is also racking up the assists, following up his 14 in the German league last season with an eye-catching 10 from just 15 games this campaign.
And that's just the sort of attacking prowess Lampard feels has been missing for Chelsea since Eden Hazard left for Real Madrid at the end of last season.
So much so, that Chelsea are prepared to meet Dortmund's whopping £120m valuation of Sancho, according to The Sun .
The publication says Liverpool have been put off by the huge price tag, but not Chelsea, with Roman Abramovic prepared to back Lampard in the transfer market.
United, meanwhile, have been courting Sancho for the past year - but it is Chelsea who are prepared to stump up the funds.
While Dortmund appear to have accepted that Sancho will leave in the summer, they will not want to lose him in the January transfer window and miss out on his goals and creativity for the rest of their Bundesliga title bid.
But Chelsea could sign Sancho next month and then loan him back to Dortmund for the rest of the campaign - just like the deal they agreed with Dortmund when they signed Christian Pulisic at the beginning of this year.
