David Turnbull has completed more key passes this season than Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes.

The Celtic star can lay claim to being one of the most creative players in European football this season based off the key passes metric.

A key pass is defined as the final pass which leads to a teammate attempting a shot at goal according to Whoscored.com - the football statistics website who posted the findings on social media.

Only OH Luvren's Xavier Mercier and Ajax's Dusan Tadic have created more chances in European football with Turnbull completing 26 key passes than superstar Messi.

The findings are even more impressive considering that the Wishaw has only started playing regularly for Celtic since December.

Turnbull has scored six goals and made five assists for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The 21-year-old has an xA (expected assists) of 0.38 per90 and and an xG (expected goals) of 0.26 per 90.

The former Motherwell star sits 6th in the Scottish Premiership for xG + xA per90 with 0.63 and Turnbull's Celtic teammate Odsonne Edouard leads the league with 0.93.

Turnbull has also attempted the second highest amount of through passes (49) in the league this season behind teammate Callum McGregor according to Wyscout.
